Airport Security Guards Court Denver City Council

February 4, 2013

Airport Security Guards at Denver International Airport (DIA) have been meeting with City Council members regarding work place issues. "We wanted to make sure that Denver's elected officials were aware of some of the security concerns we see at DIA," said Stephanie Johnson, a guard of 11 years. "We take our responsibility very seriously as the first line of defense and didn't feel management at HSS was taking our feedback earnestly." Over 25 guards participated in a series of one on one meetings with key City Council members including Council President Mary Beth Susman and Councilwoman Debbie Ortega, Chair of the Business, Workforce & Sustainability Committee. Security officer Alain Rigaud stated, "In addition to adequate training, we feel an ill workforce is a public safety concern and felt it important that Council know how inflexible management has been about using our sick time especially during the busy holiday season."
