Newly organized airport security officers are uniting with over a hundred of Houston municipal officers to enter the next phase of contract negotiations. Together, they are launching negotiations for their first-ever collective agreement while simultaneously building solidarity with fellow SEIU members at both Hobby and IAH (Bush) airports
“The time has come for all of our security officers to earn our long overdue respect and recognition,” said Chen Ung, an officer celebrating the union win at the October card check.
This victory was hard-fought and hard-won. When the campaign launched in the fall of 2024, security officers were still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Beryl. On top of natural disaster, officers worked to build a majority as they faced massive workforce turnover.
“I’m excited,” said D’Asia McReynolds, a security officer at IAH Airport. “Our win will give us a stronger voice and the opportunity to create fair, transparent workplace standards. I think this is the first step to build a more supportive and motivated environment!"
Congratulations to the newest members of the SEIU family as they build power across Texas, raising standards, winning fair wages, and ensuring every security officer has a real voice on the job!
